To make one essay a "go or no go" hurdle is not helpful to that person's future. People who are in a "go or no go" position often don't perform well. Further, to design such an ugly mechanism into the life of young people is unkind. Students invest many years into their secondary education. That time and effort leaves a detailed transcript; it is comprehensive enough to give any college clarity to decide whether that student is right for them or not. It would save a lot of people money, time, stress and just plain chasing-their-tail if a student applied on the strength of their record. After all, that has always been the main reason why high schools keep such records.
